Summer Reading Club 2011

Savour Each Word 

Summer Reading Club (SRC) is one of the most popular children's programs offered by the Whistler Public Library.  It is a free program for children ranging from preschool to grade 7.  Over a hundred children participate locally, and province-wide, SRC reaches over 80,000 kids with special programs that emphasize fun, language and literacy. The three programs are appropriate for the developmental level of each group of children

There will be two groups for ages 3 - 8 and an Intermediate Summer Book Club for ages 9 -12.

Summer Reading Club: Ages 3 - 8

Registration is now full for both sessions

Session 1: July 7, 14 & 21 and Session 2: August 11, 18 & 25 (Thursdays)

For these groups we will meet for an hour of fun stories, songs, games and crafts concentrating on this year's theme of Savour Each Word (available in June).  Each child will be given a reading record to keep track of what books they have read, or have been read to them over the summer.  Each week they will be given stickers to add to their record in order to celebrate their achievement. In order to include as many children as possible, session 2 will be a repeat of session 1.

Preschool: Age 3 to Kindergarten (September 2011): 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Primary: Grade 1 to Grade 3 (September 2011): 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Intermediate Summer Book Club: Grades 4 - 7 

This group will meet every Wednesday and Saturday July 13th to August 20th from 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Come often as you can!

Kids will be able to choose books from our book club selection (coming soon) or read one of their own choices.  Join us for a fun discussion, participate in word and creative writing games. We encourage and help participants to write short reviews of books that they have read.  These reviews can be published on our library's webpage.

The suggested grades are for those the children will be entering in September, 2011.

The Summer Reading Club program is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, The Whistler Public Library, and the Public Library Services Branch of the Ministry of Education.
