Mission Statement
The Whistler Public Library is a gateway to knowledge,
supporting lifelong learning, community engagement, and a culture
of sustainability.

Strategic Plan
The two primary Service Priorities for the library are to:
- Develop Whistler's Integrated Public Information Gateway.
- Facilitate Lifelong Learning and Literacy.
Develop Whistler's Integrated Public Information Gateway
Service Goals
- The library will serve as a gateway for information about the
programs and activities provided by community agencies and
organizations.
- All people in Whistler will have a central source for the
information they need to participate successfully in life.
- Whistler community partners, businesses and stakeholders will
have the resources and information they need to develop and
maintain strong, viable opportunities.
Objectives
- Pursue collaborative opportunities with other organizations and
agencies, including but not limited to those concerning education,
environment, government, and business.
- Explore potential synergies with the Whistler 2020
structure.
- Expand the library website's access to government information
and other online resources of benefit to Whistler residents.
- Provide opportunities for community involvement and
volunteerism.
- Develop a communications/marketing strategy to raise awareness
of library resources and services.
Facilitate Lifelong Learning
Service Goals
- Whistler residents will find a wide range of resources to
support independent inquiry and the exploration of ideas throughout
their lives.
- Children from birth to five will have programs and services
designed to help them enter school ready to learn, and school-age
children will have access to materials supporting their educational
curriculum or program.
- Access to information about formal and informal educational
opportunities and programs will be readily available.
Objectives
- Promote collaborative programs for the exploration and
discussion of a wide range of social, political, and environmental
issues.
- Expand electronic tools for learning, as outlined in the
Learning Portal concept from Whistler 2020.
- Develop and promote workshops on the use of electronic and
print resources.
- Promote the use of library facilities for the delivery of
workshops and courses by outside organizations.
This plan is the product of a series of planning
meetings which took place in late 2008 with a
community-based Strategic Planning Committee. Members included: Amy
Cassidy, Dallas Cristofoli, Kevin Damaskie, Christine Lattey, Kevin
McFarland, Libby McKeever, Mike Mills, Claire Mozes, Alix Nicoll,
Anne Popma, and Anne Townley. The committee followed the method
outlined in The New
Planning for Results by Sandra Nelson for the Public Library
Association.
