Sustainability and pancakes!

Celebrate Sustainability and the Games at Whistler Canada Olympic House! Our theme for this Saturday morning’s public event is Sustainability with a capital S, and entertainment, crafts and activities will illustrate the importance of looking after our planet.

Bobs & Lolo are a wonderful Vancouver duo that combines music, storytelling and the environment. Connecting kids to the natural world with music, movement and make-believe in an entertaining way, they share musical stories that engage, inspire and educate. Bobs & Lolo are dedicated to teaching kids to care about themselves, their neighbours and the planet. They are sure to get the kids – and maybe the adults – hopping and singing about keeping our earth green.

As usual, we’ll have themed crafts, and this Saturday you can make your very own “cowbell” out of soup cans and other recycled materials, and use it to cheer Canada on! The face painter will be back to Paint Your Cheeks Red, and kids can create or add to their Passport Book.

Whistler author Tracy Higgs and illustrator Christine Feleki have recently published a very clever winter sports themed children’s book called “The Alphabet Goes to Ski and Snowboard School,” and we’ll have a special reading of it in the Community Room. Whistler Public Library’s own Laura Nedelak will entertain; and those ever lovin’ Mascots just might make another appearance!

The free pancake breakfast is the perfect way to start a Saturday at the Games or on the slopes, but be sure to come early – because of the amazing attendance, we ran out before 11:00 last week. The doors open at 9:00 am on February 20 and the fun keeps on going until 11:30 am.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the library transformed into something completely different, I hope you’ll come in and see it. There are seven televisions, including two huge projection screens, and we had over 1300 people last Saturday morning – a number that rivals a very busy 8-hour day in our regular operation. The pancakes were going like hotcakes (sorry, very bad pun that I couldn’t resist). I hope to see you at 9 on Saturday!
