SHARE

We all know we're living in tight economic times and as a result libraries are seeing a surge in the circulation of their resources and visitors. Libraries are unique as they offer their services for free and everyone is welcome. This may not appear financially sound but it is the cornerstone of the BC libraries mandate; supporting free access to information for everyone.

With your free library card you can access resources to help you find a job, improve your skills, support you during tough times, and also provide pleasure and entertainment. This service is chiefly supported through the municipality, in other words, you the taxpayers.

We are delighted to discover that the Whistler Public Library is one of the 12 Whistler charities that are part of the SHARE Whistler campaign. SHARE Whistler is a six-week initiative by Pique Newsmagazine to drive donations to 12 Whistler charities through the Community Foundation of Whistler. For more information check out our library's web or Facebook page, or go directly to SHARE http://www.whistlerfoundation.com/itoolkit.asp?pg=SHARE_WHISTLER

The Pique and the Community Foundation of Whistler wishes to promote volunteerism and philanthropy by encouraging you to get involved and help raise funds the organization of your choice. Donors can also choose to donate to the library's permanent endowment fund. By donating $50 or more you will have the chance to win one of six Prior snowboards or pairs of skis!

Also a $10 donation gives donors a chance to win daily prizes. The Pique Newsmagazine will match donations, up to a total of $10,000, with a contribution to a special flow through a fund to be disbursed to the charities in 2012. Included in this $10,000 is a donation of $10 for each hour an individual who is currently volunteering at the library  'works'. For every 5 hours of volunteer time, the volunteer is entered in the draw for a pair of skis or a snowboard. Volunteer hours are submitted by the library on the behalf of the volunteer.

In addition the Pique Newsmagazine will contribute $1 for each new "Like" on the Community Foundation's Facebook page (up to $1000*).  For more information, please come to the library and see Nadine or Libby or call them at 604-935-8433.
