SUMMARY:Find Your Place Open Mic Night featuring Alli Vail
DESCRIPTION:Join the Whistler Writers Festival for Find Your Place, an Open Mic Night of short reading performances by local writers, and featuring author Alli Vail and her debut novel, Brooklyn Thomas Isn’t Here.\nThe night’s readings investigate the theme of being present, and what happens when the chaos of life causes characters to become ungrounded. When a separation of body and spirit occurs, how do we learn to reconnect with ourselves?\nIn Brooklyn Thomas Isn’t Here, Vail explores how women contort and minimize themselves to fit into the roles family and society offer them, and the serious price they pay for doing so. In this new work of contemporary fiction, Brooklyn is pretty sure she’s mostly dead. Her best friend is missing, her career is a disaster, she’s stuck living with her parents, and her heart isn’t beating. She doesn’t have long to find her voice and unravel her past to save her future.\nWhether you want to share your own writing or poetry, or enjoy listening to others express themselves, this event is the perfect opportunity to ground yourself in a storytelling experience. Click here to your free ticket now!\nWant to read your own work (published or a work-in-progress) at the event? Email writers@whistlerwritersfest.com ( mailto:writers@whistlerwritersfest.com ) before June 7!\n \nBONUS! On Saturday, June 22 at 9 a.m., Alli will lead a writing workshop at the One Day Writing Retreat at The Point in Whistler. Get retreat details and tickets here.\n
