DESCRIPTION:National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a day for Canadians to commemorate the history and legacy of the residential school system. It’s a day to honour the resilience, dignity and strength of survivors and remember the children who never came home. It’s a chance to engage and educate people about B.C.’s colonial history and how it has and continues to impact Indigenous communities.\nCommitted to its own reconciliation journey and to supporting others to engage in this critical work, the BC Chamber of Commerce invites you to “Embracing Truth: Honouring the National Day for Reconciliation”, a virtual event designed to facilitate education, reflection and meaningful dialogue about the history and ongoing impacts of the residential school system in B.C. and across Canada.\nThe theme of this year’s session, “Honouring the Past, Building a Reconciled Future” will emphasize the importance of acknowledging and learning from the past while taking active steps toward reconciliation and fostering positive relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. It will encourage participants to reflect on the history of residential schools, understand its lasting impacts, and explore ways to contribute to reconciliation efforts in their personal and professional lives.\nRegistration is required to attend this virtual session. Registration is free, with options to donate to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.
