DESCRIPTION:Please note: Our December 4 & 9 Fall Bear Updates are full, but we are still taking names for the waitlist. Please email publicservices@whistlerlibrary.ca ( mailto:publicservices@whistlerlibrary.ca ) to join the waitlist, and include which date you’d like to attend and your phone number so we can call in case of a last-minute cancellation.\nIndependent researcher Michael Allen is back at WPL for his annual Fall Bear Update.\n2025 marks the 32nd year of collecting data on bears in the Sea to Sky Corridor. The goal of this monitoring is to maintain a network of remote camera traps that help determine survival (recapture) and fitness (cub production and body condition) of known bears across a rapidly changing (drought, floods, and fires) landscape.\nThis year experienced continued drought, some small fires, but good berry crops and salmon returns.\nBear fishing strategies, the impact of the chum salmon return in November on the timing of winter denning, and an overview of grizzly bear female fitness in the Upper Squamish River watershed including the lack of males camera-trapped in their spring ranges will be discussed.\nThis season, we are offering two chances to attend this popular event. Folks can sign up to attend on either Thursday, December 4 OR Tuesday, December 9. Both events will run from 6 to 8 p.m.\nRegistration is required!
