To help answer this questions, B.C.’s Human Rights Commissioner is hosting a series of conversations with leading experts from across the country in the Beyond the Headlines discussion series.\nBeyond the Headlines takes a deeper dive into the human rights issue facing the province right now, drawing from the Commissioner’s landmark Rights in Focus report, which provides a snapshot of inequities in 10 key systems.\nWe invite you to join BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner (BCOHRC) on Thursday, May 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. PST for the next ‘episode’ of the Beyond the Headlines discussion series. In the weeks following International Workers’ Day (May Day), we emphasize that we all have a right to be free from discrimination in the context of employment, regardless of whether we’re newcomers to Canada or where we or our families come from.\nIn this second Beyond the Headlines episode, Commissioner Kasari Govender has invited Amnesty International Canada, English Section’s Secretary General Ketty Nivyabandi to discuss the employment inequities and other human rights issues experienced by migrant workers in B.C., including temporary foreign workers (TFWs).\nThe Commissioner and Ketty Nivyabandi will discuss crucial questions such as:\n\nWhat can B.C. and Canada do to advance the rights of migrant workers and address human rights abuses against them?\nHow does the climate crisis impact migrant workers and what does that mean for their human rights?\nThey will also respond to audience questions throughout the live discussion.\n\nClick here to register for the Zoom webinar!\nThe discussion will also be livestreamed on the BCOHRC website at bchumanrights.ca/beyond-the-headlines.\nEXTERNAL: We are sharing this event on behalf of our friends at BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner.
