Storytelling Through Time with Rebecca Wood Barrett

Writers in grades 4 to 7 as of September 2023 are invited to get creative with local author Rebecca Wood Barrett! In addition to flexing your writing muscles, these workshops will include an outdoor activity and a snack for participants to keep the creative juices flowing.

Registration is required, and kids are welcome to sign up for both workshops. Registration will open on Thursday, June 29 – click here to access our registration form.

Tuesday, July 11, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Travel into the Past

In this creative writing adventure, you’ll invent your own time-travel story that goes back into the past. We’ll talk about different types of time-travel stories and the paradox of changing the past to affect the future. Together we’ll brainstorm unique time-travel portals, vehicles, and time-jumper methods. You’ll figure out how to choose a time period and create the rules for your time-bending story.

Tuesday, August 15, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Into the Far Out Future

Are you ready to take a leap into the future? In this creative writing class we’ll write futuristic  stories that imagine alternative worlds. We’ll talk about why your story’s rules need to be consistent, even while you create places that depart from reality. You’ll learn how to blend in worldbuilding details, without adding too much. This is your chance to stretch your imagination while writing unforgettable characters who live in an invented future!

The event is finished.
