The Double Axel Expedition with John Dunn

Veteran arctic adventurer John Dunn comes to Whistler to share stories, images and video from his team’s pioneering 60 day, 900 km skiing expedition on remote Axel Heiberg Island in Canada’s High Arctic.

John – and equally veteran, fellow senior Graeme Magor – completed the first end-to-end ski traverse of Ellesmere Island’s lesser-known and
rarely travelled neighbour.

About the presenter:

John Dunn is a wilderness traveller and photographer with a passion for the vast and rugged landscapes of the Canadian Arctic. Born and educated in England, John graduated in geology from London University and worked in mineral exploration in the Australian Outback. After moving to Calgary, he became a Canadian citizen and pursued his dream of exploring and photographing the Arctic.

John has organised and successfully completed over 20 arctic expeditions, totaling over 1100 days in the field. For his efforts in promoting awareness of Canada’s arctic geography John was made a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Not satisfied with some 12,500 km of sled-hauling, John has more plans for expeditions in Canada’s northernmost region.
