Write It, Read It Camps with Rebecca Wood Barrett
July Camp (July 25, 26 & 27): Mountains in Your Notebook
The great outdoors can spark all kinds of inspiration in our writing. Mighty mountain adventures. Dangerous escapes in wild weather. A character’s feelings reflected in the landscape. Together we’ll learn to use the setting of the great outdoors to develop plot and character. We’ll also discover how to engage all your senses to make the natural world—and your story—come alive.
August Camp (August 22, 23 & 24): Constructing A Story – A Writer’s Toolbox
How do your favourite writers craft a story? They use the four building blocks of storytelling. In this creative writing workshop, you’ll learn about the four architectural parts and how to use them, including: Narrative Summary, Exposition, Scene (Action & Dialogue) and Description. We’ll dig up examples from your favourite books to understand how authors use them. You’ll also get to practice using your new writing tools to create your own amazing stories!
These creative writing camps are for kids in grade 5 and up as of September 2022. Participants are welcome to attend both camps!
Registration opens on Wednesday, June 29 at 10 a.m. – email publicservices@whistlerlibrary.ca or stop by the library to sign up!
