Sphero Bolt

Sphero Bolt at WPL

We are now lending Sphero Bolts! Patrons can check out these app-enabled robotic balls, free of charge, for a three week lending period, just like library books.

Spheros support Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) learning. Sphero Bolt brings robotics, coding, and STEAM principles together – all through play! Navigate a maze, program a painting, mimic the solar system, swim across water or have a dance party. You can also code your own program and design your own activity. The only limit is your imagination.

Borrowing a Sphero Bolt Kit with Your Library Card

Want to borrow a Sphero SPRK+ kit? It’s easy! All you need is a Whistler Public Library card. You can check out your Sphero Bolt kit for a three week loan period; these kits are not renewable, but you can place another hold once your three weeks is up! Please return your Sphero Bolt kit on time to Whistler Public Library only. Please return the device to a service desk during business hours – do not place it in a book drop! The Sphero Bolt collection is available to Whistler Public Library full access cardholders only.

What’s Inside

Each Sphero Bolt kit includes a Sphero Bolt robotic ball, charging cable, charging base, protractor, tape measure, and a how-to card. You’ll need to provide your own Bluetooth-enabled smart phone or tablet, and download a Sphero app – we suggest the Sphero Edu app. You can download it free from the App Store or Google Play, and the QR links are included on the how-to card in the kit.

Getting Started

1.     Charge Sphero Bolt

  • During charging, the blue light indicator on the charging cradle will blink.
  • When fully charged, the light indicator will turn solid blue.
  • It takes up to six hours to recharge the battery.

2.     Get Sphero App

3.     Enable Bluetooth on your device

  • Bluetooth options will appear in your device settings.
  • Firmware updates occur automatically when you connect Sphero Bolt to your mobile device. It takes about 30 seconds to complete.
  • You’re done! Open the Sphero Edu app and get rolling!
