Borrow a Councillor

Borrow a Councillor

Whistler Public Library’s Unusual Items Collection is about to get more unique!

Between September 16 and the end of December, Whistler Public Library card holders can ‘borrow a Councillor’ from the library’s Unusual Items Collection.

Borrow a Councillor gives you 30 minutes of dedicated time to talk to your Elected Officials about municipal and community issues that matter most to you. This program is one of the ways we are testing and evolving how we connect with the community. If the program is a success, we’ll continue into 2025.

No library card? No sweat! You can still contact Councillors directly to set up some time.

Read on to meet the Councillors and to book your 30-minute session today!

Jack Crompton

I’ve been Mayor of Whistler since 2018. If you want to talk political history or really politics of any description, I’m all in. I’m passionate about affordable housing and growing a worker-focused tourism sector in Whistler. When I’m not working, you’ll find me skiing, biking, or, on early weekend mornings, at Alpine Cafe cheering on my beloved West Ham United; Come on you Irons! I’m a “lasher” on the Pacific Crest Trail when I can be. I’m happy to be “borrowed” for any (legal) purpose.

Arthur De Jong

I’ll walk you (slowly) up the Ascents and explain how the trail was envisioned and built. On the lift down, I’ll explain how Whistler Blackcomb was built, and passionately discuss all things environmental. The Valley version could include Big Moves #1: biking the valley trail and assessing the parks/trail system. Most importantly, I love coffee and listening to community members discuss their aspirations for Whistler.

Jen Ford

Want to talk about housing, affordability, childcare, raising a young family in the best place on earth?? Click with me!
I’ve been serving Whistler and the Squamish Lillooet Regional District since 2014. I know a thing or two about local government. I also like to walk and talk!

Ralph Forsyth

I moved to Whistler in 1991 to teach skiing. If you’re doing the math, I’ve been a washed-up ski instructor for over a decade. I’ve never been the best skier on the mountain, but I do have awesome style.
I was elected to RMOW Council in 2005 and 2008. Despite never being the smartest guy in the room or the calm voice of reason, I won again 2018 and 2022.
My most cherished time is spent trying to keep up with my family skiing and biking, where I drop F-Bombs like I’m in a Guy Ritchie movie.
After 30+ years here I’m (almost) a real British Columbian, I make my own granola, but I draw the line at wearing socks and sandals.

Cathy Jewett

Do you need to borrow a Councillor that can take you for a ride (Level 1 Bike Coach), help you with your first aid homework (current OEC ticket), cook for a crowd, identify wildflowers, tell you how good it was in the 70s, or help set an agenda for a meeting? Then look no further than me, Cathy Jewett. All this and more are skills I can assist you with.

Jessie Morden

Born and raised in Whistler, I carry a deep appreciation for our community and the small-town values that have helped shape who I am. I cherish quality time with my family, whether it’s hiking through nature with our dogs or paddle boarding on one of our lakes. I love this beautiful place we call home and am excited to continue to watch us thrive.

Jeff Murl

As a numbers guy, I thought I’d put this together by the numbers:  1st term on council, 2 kids, 2 & 5, 20 years teaching skiing at Whistler, 4 restaurants that I used to own, 8 years into my accounting practice, 600km this year on my ebike towing my kids around as of this writing, 7 Boards and committees I sit on, 32 books borrowed, zero for an adult, 22 hours spent watching my kids at the Meadow Park Splash pad, 2 wasp nests destroyed, 1 sting while in the forest, 1 person hoping you borrow this councillor, ME!
