In recognition of the Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Whistler Multicultural Society is hosting a speaker event to explore the discrimination experienced by racialized people across various social systems such as education, health services, employment, and housing.

By concentrating on education, health services, employment, and housing, we aim to delve deeper into how racism and discrimination exacerbate existing challenges in these areas. By doing so, we hope to shed light on the impact of racial discrimination, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable community.

Keynote Address: Njoki Mbũrũ – Creative and relational storyteller, consultant, and facilitator with 4+ years of experience working cross-functionally to mobilize data, knowledge, and stories to shift practices, policies, and systems

Panel Discussion: Hear from four panelists who will discuss how IBPOC people experience discrimination in four topics of discussion – housing, employment, education and health care.
The United Nations has designated March 21st as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, aligning with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This declaration underscores that everyone is entitled to all rights and freedoms without discrimination, including factors such as race and color. Despite these principles, racism and racial discrimination continue to affect people worldwide.

Drawing on the findings of the Whistler Multicultural Society’s 2022 Racism, Bias, and Discrimination Survey, as well as insights from our 2022 Building Inclusive Communities Event, it has become evident that racialized people are facing discrimination across various facets of life in the Sea to Sky. The data collected underscores the urgency of addressing this issue and has prompted the Whistler Multicultural Society to host this event.

EXTERNAL: We are sharing this event on behalf of our friends at the Whistler Multicultural Society. The event is not being hosted by Whistler Public Library, and therefore may be updated, changed, or canceled with little notice.

The event is finished.
