The Clothesline Project: Prevention of Violence Against Women Week
The Clothesline Project is a public display bearing witness to the serious problem of gender-based violence. Each shirt hanging on the Clothesline is decorated with words or images to represent a participant’s personal beliefs, understanding or experiences of gender-based violence.
Visit the library during the week of April 10 to 16, 2022, to engage with this interactive art installation. If you stop by during the Women’s Centre drop-in hours on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13, you can decorate your own shirt to be added to the installation – all supplies provided.
Although this week shines a light on violence against women, Howe Sound Women’s Centre is working to increase awareness and support those who identify as a marginalized gender, as we know that non-binary, trans, and Two-Spirit people all experience gender-based violence at a greater rate. This week is an important part of our work to end gender-based violence against all people. Prevention starts with acknowledging that a problem exists.
