Exploring the Sierra Nevada De Santa Marta with Peter Chrzanowski

Join local author, athlete, and adventurer Peter Chrzanowski for a film screening and presentation about his expeditions to the Sierra Nevada De Santa Marta mountain range in Colombia.

Peter first heard about the mysterious Sierra Nevada De Santa Marta in 1970 from National Geographic Magazine and always wanted to visit this amazing place, which extends from the beaches of the Caribbean to the near 6,000 meter glaciers and peaks only 26 km away from the coast, and hosts the most diversified flora and fauna in the world. In 1998, He led his first film and ski expedition there to film Journey to the Heart of the World. In 2008, he visited again to hike and fly his paraglider in the Sierra and create his second film, Sacred Flight. These films were created in collaboration with two Indigenous groups, the Kogi and Arhuaco peoples, whose ancestral system of knowledge has been safeguarded by UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee.

Peter will have copies of his memoir, I Survived Myself, for sale at the event, and you can also borrow a copy from the library.
