REGISTRATION OPENS OCTOBER 30: Fall Bear Update with Michael Allen
Please note: registration for this program opens on Friday, October 30 at 10 a.m.
Independent researcher Michael Allen is back at WPL for his annual Fall Bear Update.
2026 marks the 33rd year of collecting data on bears in the Sea to Sky Corridor. The goal of this monitoring is to maintain a network of remote camera traps that help determine survival (recapture) and fitness (cub production and body condition) of known bears across a rapidly changing (drought, floods, and fires) landscape.
Under the wave of continued drought that destroyed most of this year’s fall berry crop, impacts on bear movements, adaptive response, fitness, and the role salmon played as the savior for many bears will be discussed. Michael will also provide an update on local wolf packs, mountain lions, and prey abundance.
This season, we are offering two chances to attend this popular event. Folks can sign up to attend on either Tuesday, December 1 OR Thursday, December 10. Both events will run from 6 to 8 p.m.
Registration is required! Email publicservices@whistlerlibrary.ca to sign up. Please provide a name and email address for plus ones!
