FireSmart 101 Workshops

Join Resort Municipality of Whistler FireSmart Coordinator Steve Ruhl for a FireSmart 101 Workshop!

Topics will include:

  • Whistler is at wildfire risk now: the Sea to Sky corridor faces elevated fire danger, low snowpack, and a longer fire season than most residents expect from a coastal community
  • How homes actually burn: most homes are lost to ember cast, not the fire front itself, and small changes to the area immediately around your home make a dramatic difference
  • The Home Ignition Zone: FireSmart divides your property into three zones, and even tackling just the closest 1.5 metres to your home significantly improves your odds
  • 10 things you can do this weekend: no contractors, no permits, no major cost; practical actions any homeowner or renter can start immediately
  • Free help is available in Whistler: a no-cost on-site home assessment, native plant guidance, and emergency alert registration are all available to Whistler residents right now

There will be time for questions following the presentation!

Registration is encouraged – email publicservices@whistlerlibrary.ca to sign up, and please be sure to let us know which date you’d like to attend (June 20, July 25, or August 15).
