POSTPONED – Our Ice is Vanishing: Climate Change & Sovereignty in the Arctic

Please note: this presentation has been postponed. To stay informed on the new date, make sure you are signed up for our Adult Events Newsletter.

Join us for a conversation with Professor Shelley Wright about climate change & sovereignty in the Arctic. We are in the middle of several global crises, including accelerating climate change. Canada is directly effected by these changes, especially in the Arctic. Environmental safety is often sacrificed in the midst of extreme  political, economic, and even military challenges. Sovereignty is not only about our national strategies to deal with all this. It is also about the rights of people, mostly Inuit, who actually live in the Arctic.

About the presenter:

Shelley Wright is a retired professor of International Law and Indigenous Studies who lived, worked, and travelled in the Arctic (Nunavut and Greenland) for more than a decade. Shelley is the author of the award winning Sikuvut Nunguliqtuq / Our Ice Is Vanishing: Inuit, Newcomers, and Climate Change (MQUP, 2014) and a member of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society. She now lives on the Northern Sunshine Coast.
