Out/side Exhibition
Exhibit run: May 27 to July 18
Art Party: June 19 | 6 to 8 p.m. | Free & all ages
Location: The Gallery at Maury Young Arts Centre
Out/side celebrates the diverse sexual orientations and gender identities of the Sea to Sky’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community and beyond, and anyone who has ever questioned where they belong, particularly in a region defined by sport, recreation, and constant motion.
Through a range of perspectives and practices, queer artists and allies bring their “out” side into public view and reflect on what it means to be visible in this community. The works consider experiences that feel open and welcoming, closed or exclusive, and the in-between moments that require careful navigation. They touch on building connection and showing up as your full self.
Out/side expands the conversation around visibility and belonging; it is an ongoing act of claiming space, and inviting others into it, asking everyone to consider the unique joys and vulnerabilities of living a life out/side.
This exhibit was created by Arts Whistler in collaboration with Whistler Rainbow Connection (hosted by Whistler Public Library & Whistler Community Services Society) and is proudly sponsored by Moguls.
Please note this exhibit will be closed for a private event on May 28 – 30.
