Saturday Sessions with MAC: Costs & Consequences of Identity Theft
Join Whistler’s Mature Action Community (MAC) for a monthly series at Whistler Public Library exploring all things education, health, and wellness!
September Topic: Costs & Consequences of Identity Theft
Presenter: Mary Pichette, Business Development Consultant and Risk Mitigation Specialist
Identity theft is becoming increasingly common, and the consequences can go far beyond losing money. Your personal information can be used to open accounts, make purchases, access services, or create serious financial and legal problems in your name.
Join Whistler MAC for an informative and engaging education session with Mary Pichette, Business Development Consultant and Risk Mitigation Specialist, as she explores the real costs and consequences of identity theft—and, importantly, what you can do to protect yourself.
Mary brings more than 30 years of experience as an educator, social justice advocate and business professional. A former criminology and law professor, she is passionate about helping Canadians better understand their rights and access practical solutions.
In this session, you will learn:
- How identity theft happens and the warning signs to watch for
- How criminals can use your personal information
- The financial and personal consequences of identity theft
- Steps you can take to reduce your risk
- What to do if you believe your identity has been compromised
- Where to turn for help and support
This series is free to attend, and refreshments will be provided. Registration is encouraged – email publicservices@whistlerlibrary.ca to sign up!
