Throwing a Character Curveball: Young Writers’ Workshop with Rebecca Wood Barrett
Why do some characters stay with us? What makes them so memorable? In this creative writing workshop, we’ll explore the reasons why certain characters stick with us long after we finish reading. Together we’ll brainstorm ideas for new, fresh characters. We’ll find out how to move past first ideas and create character curveballs and hairpin turns that surprise and satisfy.
This creative writing workshop is for kids ages 10 and up.

About the author:
Rebecca Wood Barrett is an award-winning writer and filmmaker living in Whistler, British Columbia. Her short fiction has been published in Room, The Antigonish Review and Pique Newsmagazine. She has made over 35 short films, which have broadcast on TV and been screened at festivals around the world. Rebecca is a passionate advocate for the literary arts, and enjoys supporting emerging and established writers in their projects through teaching, editing, and career consultation. Her middle-grade children’s book My Best Friend is Extinct (Orca Book Publishers) is a finalist for the Chocolate Lily Award and the Red Cedar Book Award.
