Whistler Writers Festival: Springtime in Kitkatla – A Picture Book Reading

Young readers will be delighted by the rich imagery and touching family story of Springtime in Kitkatla, by award-winning author Kim Spencer (Weird Rules to Follow, Here for a Good Time). Illustrated by Karlene Harvey, the picture book follows Wałaas and her dzi’i (grandmother), who travel by fishing boat to their family’s reserve of Kitkatla for spring break. For Wałaas, Kitkatla always feels like home, and she spends her days wandering the shore, enjoying traditional foods like fresh chiton and sea urchin, and listening to the adults speak Sm’algya̱x.
