Writing Workshops with Rebecca Wood Barrett

Writers in grades 4 to 7 as of September 2025 are invited to get creative with local author Rebecca Wood Barrett! In addition to flexing your writing muscles, these workshops will include an outdoor activity and a snack for participants to keep the creative juices flowing.

Registration is required, and kids are welcome to sign up for both workshops. Registration will open on Monday, June 16 at 10 a.m. – click here to access our registration form.

Monday, July 14, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Let’s Hit the Yellow Brick Road: Writing Other Worlds

Have you ever wanted to disappear into another world? Join author Rebecca Wood Barrett to learn how to write a fantastical story set in another world. Together we’ll talk about portals to other places (wardrobes, steam trains, twisters, tesseracts and more!) and create courageous characters who enter strange new worlds to solve big hairy problems.

Wednesday, August 6, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Supercharge Your Story: Borrowing Ideas from Biology & Nature

How do you bring a story to life? In this creative writing workshop with author Rebecca Wood Barrett, we’ll draw from the natural world to energize your stories and characters. We’ll dive into the five senses (what you see, hear, touch, taste, and feel), and combine it with elements from nature that interest you (amazing animals, peculiar plants, luminous landscapes) to craft an original story that feels real.
