Summer Writing Workshops with Rebecca Wood Barrett
Writers in grades 4 to 7 as of September 2026 are invited to get creative with local author Rebecca Wood Barrett! In addition to flexing your writing muscles, these workshops will include an outdoor activity and a snack for participants to keep the creative juices flowing.
Registration is required, and kids are welcome to sign up for both workshops. Registration will open on Monday, June 15 at 10 a.m. Click here to access our registration form.
Tuesday, July 21, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Launch Across the Universe
Have you ever looked up at the stars and wondered what’s out there? Are there aliens on other planets? What is it like to travel through space in a starship? In this creative writing workshop we’ll write micro science-fiction stories that imagine travel across the universe. We’ll talk about why space stories are such a fun way to explore what it’s like to be human, even while you create settings and creatures that are in galaxies far, far away. This is your chance to stretch your imagination while writing unforgettable characters (and aliens) who adventure somewhere out there in the expanse of space!
Wednesday, August 19, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Adventure Over the Open Ocean
Have you ever wanted to pack your kit bag, hike up a ship’s gangway and head out on the high seas? In this creative writing workshop we’ll brainstorm and write stories that take place on (or in!) the ocean. Together we’ll come up with ideas about fantastic ships and submarines, astonishing ocean creatures both real and mythical, and characters who crave the excitement and adventure of sailing off on a voyage of discovery.
