After almost a year on hiatus, Barbed Choir welcomes the community to participate in a Virtual Choir project, singing the classic California Dreamin’!
When the COVID-19 pandemic began, over 200 choirs in British Columbia had to press pause on business as usual. (Yes, over 200 – did you know that BC has the most choirs per capita of any province?) This included our local choirs, the Whistler Singers, Whistler Children’s Chorus, and Barbed Choir. As time passed, many choirs started to experiment with virtual meetings. But, because of the lag that occurs when more than one person tries to sing over Zoom (or any other video conferencing platform), our choirs, and choirs around the world, haven’t been able to sing together for almost a year.
Enter the Virtual Choir. You’ve probably seen some Virtual Choir videos floating around on social media; we particularly enjoyed Choir! Choir! Choir!’s production of Across the Universe featuring Rufus Wainwright, and Vancouver’s own Phoenix Chamber Choir singing Billy Joel’s Longest Time. Now it’s our turn! Jeanette and Laura, Barbed Choir’s fearless leaders, invite you to submit a video of yourself singing the Mamas and the Papas classic tune, California Dreamin’, and be a part of Whistler’s musical history!
All of the details and instructions for participants can be found in this Google Drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1vtqYBJd3sZkPda1RAqqAMx9dU70m0s7j?usp=sharing
If you’d like to stay up-to-date on this project and connect with other participants, you can join the Barbed Choir Facebook group.
Your videos must be submitted by Sunday, January 31, 2021. If you have any questions about the process or need help with any of the steps, email Library Program Coordinator & Barbed Choir Director, Jeanette Bruce, at jbruce@whistlerlibrary.ca!
