We’re coming to you today with a message from our Library Director, Mikale Fenton, who’d like to share our 2025 Report to the Community.
Here’s Mikale:
At first glance, an annual report might seem like it’s all about numbers.
And yes—you’ll find plenty of those inside. Visits, books borrowed, programs delivered, new initiatives launched, and projects completed.
But what those numbers really represent are people.
They represent children discovering a love of reading. Teens finding a welcoming place to study. Families making memories together at Storytime and Summer Reading Club. Lifelong learners exploring new ideas. Neighbours and visitors connecting with one another. Thousands of moments that make the Whistler Public Library so much more than a building full of books.
This past year was one of growth, learning, and innovation. Together, we expanded Sunday hours of service to create more opportunities for people to visit the library when it works best for them. We completed a comprehensive Space Needs Assessment to help shape the future of our building, introduced our first soundproof study Pod to provide greater access to quiet work space, and strengthened our emergency preparedness by developing a Crisis Communications Framework. We also listened carefully to our community through surveys and conversations with residents and partner organizations, ensuring the library continues to evolve alongside the people it serves.
And, of course, there was plenty of fun along the way—from our first-ever Puzzle Competition, which filled the library with teamwork and friendly competition, to hundreds of programs and events that brought our community together throughout the year.
As I reflect on everything we’ve accomplished, I’m reminded that none of it happens in isolation. Every achievement is the result of an incredible team of staff, volunteers, trustees, donors, community partners, and engaged residents who continue to believe in the value of a strong public library.
Our Annual Report to the Community is an opportunity to celebrate these shared accomplishments while looking ahead to what’s next. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to explore it and discover how your library is continuing to learn, adapt, and grow alongside our community.
Thank you for being part of our story.
