Reflecting on 2024 & Looking Ahead

We’re proud to share two exciting updates from Whistler Public Library: the release of our 2024 Report to the Community and the launch of our Strategic Progress Survey. The report reflects on a year of growth, innovation, and connection, while the survey invites you—our patrons, partners, and community—to help shape our future. Together, these initiatives highlight our commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

2024 was filled with meaningful accomplishments. We celebrated ten year anniversaries for two of our beloved programs—the Whistler Multicultural Festival and the Community Book Club—and finalized our 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, a collaborative effort created with input from community members, staff, and our Board of Trustees. The plan outlines five key priorities that will guide our work as a community-driven, innovative institution.

One of the year’s most impactful changes was the extension of our Sunday hours, made possible through the Province of British Columbia’s Enhancement Grant. The pilot program led to a 30% increase in visitation, making the library more accessible and easing traffic congestion on busy Sunday evenings. It also created opportunities for new programming, like our family-friendly Sunday Fundays.

We continued our commitment to inclusivity through programs and displays that celebrate our diverse community—such as Black History Month, the Celebrate Your Way winter tradition display, and our ongoing Multicultural Festival.

  • In-person visits: 173,560 (11% increase from 2023)
  • New patron registrations: 2,577
  • Downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks borrowed: 25,748
  • Picture books borrowed: 16,554
  • New physical items added: 4,708
  • Programs delivered:
    • Adult: 809
    • Youth: 498
  • Total program attendance: 19,675 (11% increase)
  • Reference questions answered: 45,650 (24% increase)

We also introduced new and exciting programs, such as the Men’s Circle, Electrik Kitchen, and a Health & Wellness series for seniors in partnership with Whistler’s Mature Action Community. Youth programming continued to thrive with consistent weekly Storytimes, STEAM-focused activities, and the welcoming Stay & Play program.

With our 2024–2029 Strategic Plan in place, we are committed to tracking our progress and listening closely to our community. That’s why we’ve launched the Strategic Progress Survey—a quick, anonymous survey that will help us understand our impact and gather feedback to guide future initiatives. The survey will run until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Province of British Columbia, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, our dedicated Trustees, and the Friends of the Library. With your support, we’re building a library that grows alongside our inspired, informed, and engaged community.

Here’s to everything we’ve accomplished—and everything yet to come.
