It’s hard to believe, but summer is right around the corner! We’re excited to offer a wide variety of activities and events for kids of all ages and their grown-ups. Whether you love reading, drawing, writing, building, or exploring the outdoors, we’ve got something for you.

Reading Records and Activity Passports
Let’s avoid the summer slide, and keep our kids reading with BC Summer Reading Club!
With a Reading Record, kids can set their own goals, using their preferred method of reading – ebooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, whatever they enjoy! A digital version of the Reading Record is available, along with virtual events, activities, and contests throughout the summer. The 2023 online platform launches on June 19.
Visit the library each week to receive a sticker for completed goals, and enter our weekly prize draw. Kids who complete their entire Reading Record will be entered in our Grand Prize Draw on August 31!
We’re also offering our third annual Summer Activity Passport this year! These passports include weekly literacy activities that will bring kids around their neighbourhoods, around town, and to the library.
Visit the library often to get stamps for completed activities, and to enter our weekly prize draw. Kids who complete every activity in the Summer Activity Passport will be entered in our Grand Prize Draw on August 31!
And, we’re offering Early Literacy Bingo for little ones who are pre-reading! Each square of the bingo card has a literacy activity for families to complete. Visit the library often to get stamps for completed activities.

Summer Celebrations
First up, our Summer Kick-Off Day! Join us on Thursday, June 29, between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Florence Petersen Park and inside the library. Here’s the schedule of activities:
- 11 a.m. onward – Lucia Gelato in Florence Petersen Park (while supplies last)
- 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Build your own Paper Time Machine in the Community Room
- 12 to 3 p.m. Face Painting on the Back Deck
- Scheduled games in Florence Petersen Park:
- 12 p.m. Egg & Spoon Race
- 12:45 p.m. Red Light/Green Light
- 1:30 p.m. Musical Statues
- 2:15 p.m. Egg & Spoon Race
- There will be drop-in games in the park throughout the day!
You’ll also be able to pick up your Summer Reading Record, Summer Activity Passport, and Early Literacy Bingo.
And, mark your calendars for the summer’s biggest event: the Pico & the Golden Lagoon Puppet Show! Join us on Thursday, August 10 at 4 p.m. in Florence Petersen Park (right behind the library) for this incredible show. All ages welcome, no registration required. We recommend bringing a picnic blanket or camp chairs!
